Kennedy, Prater advance to semifinals

EVANSTON — Illinois senior Jimmy Kennedy and junior Ryan Prater took advantage of a rare opportunity — teammates being seeded in the same weight class at a major tournament — Tuesday and reached the semifinals in the 141-pound weight class at the 47th annual Midlands Championships.
Kennedy, who is redshirting, was the top seed at 141, and Prater was seeded seventh.
Kennedy went 3-0, and Prater was 4-0 including an upset against second-seeded Dan LeClere of Iowa in the quarterfinals.
If Kennedy and Prater win their semifinal bouts today, they would meet for the title.
