Siebert, Zeman pin wins on UI wrestlers
Eric Siebert and Bill Zeman each went 4-0 with two pins Saturday as Illinois swept four meets at the Peach State Duals in Atlanta.
The Illini, ranked ninth in the nation, had little trouble beating Tennessee-Chattanooga 34-8, Virginia Military Institute 41-3, Georgia Southern 34-12 and Miami of Ohio 37-4. Overall, they had eight pins and outscored their opponents 146-27.
Siebert's two pins at 150 pounds give him eight this season and 19 for his career, the fourth most by an Illini. He improved to 19-1 this season.
Ben King at 167 pounds, 177-pounder Jevon Herman and 190-pounder Pat Quirk also went 4-0 for Illinois, which hosts Purdue at 1 p.m. Saturday at Huff Hall.
"This was a really good meet for us," Illini coach Mark Johnson said. "It was an opportunity for us to see a lot of competition in one day in order to help us be even more prepared for the upcoming Big Ten duals.
"The guys wrestled with a lot of intensity and showed that they have the ability to dominate a match."
Herman and Siebert both picked up their 94th career wins, which ties for the fifth-highest total in UI history.
