Illini land Destiny Williams
Destiny Williams, a 6-foot-3 forward from Benton Harbor, Mich., is expected to sign with Jolette Law's Illini on Wednesday, pushing the Illini's latest recruiting class into one of the best in the country.
Williams is ranked eighth by ESPN HoopGurlz, 16th by Blue Star. She chose Illinois over Maryland, Georgia and Louisville. Her first official visit was to the UI in September .
"Coach Law has a wonderful group coming in," Wlilliams' mom, Angelia Brohiri, said Tuesday. "We're real excited to be a part of it."
Chris Mennig of Blue Star said pending last-minute signings that Illinois' haul will rank fourth nationally.
Williams, who plays for the same club team as fellow UI recruit Brianna Jones of Toledo, averaged 24.5 points, 13.9 rebounds, 4.2 blocks and 3.7 steals last season for her high school team.
Williams' addition likely means Illinois will have a recruiting class ranked among the top in the country. It includes five other players -- all ranked among the nation's top 150.
The Illini still have one scholarship available. The Illini are waiting for an answer from Texas center Kelsey Bone, ranked second by HoopGurlz, first by Blue Star. She is choosing among Texas, Texas A&M, South Carolina and Illinois.
