Women's track and field adds 12 recruits
CHAMPAIGN — The Illinois women’s track and field team announced Friday it has added a recruiting class of 12 athletes, including four prep state champions.
The newcomers are led by Kayla Smith, a five-time Oregon state champion from Portland. Smith won consecutive state crowns in the 100 meters and 200 in 2008-09 as well as in the long jump this year.
Courtney Yaeger of Wheeling, W.Va., was a 2009 state champion in the 1,600 and 3,200 after finishing second in the 2008 state cross-country meet.
Marrisa Golliday of Oak Lawn Richards captured the IHSA Class 2A state title this year in the 400.
Stephanie Brown of Sheridan, Wyo., ran
on two state championship relay teams this year.
Another signee, Ariel Robinson of Decatur MacArthur, was a Class 2A state finalist in the 100 and 200 this year.
