Doubles team ranked second nationally

URBANA — The Illinois doubles team of Dennis Nevolo and Marek Czerwinski is No. 2 in the first Campbell/Intercollegiate Tennis Association men’s doubles rankings for 2010.
The rankings were announced Tuesday.
The Illini tandem went 11-1 during the fall season, capped by a back-draw doubles title at the ITA National Indoor Championships in November. Czerwinski and Nevolo also won the ITA Midwest Regional Championships doubles crown as the fifth seed. The pair won five of six matches against ranked opponents in the fall.
Illinois is No. 15 in the first men’s team poll of the season.
Nevolo also is ranked 43rd in singles, while Illini freshman Rachael White is No. 33 in women’s singles.

Women’s track ranked. The Illini women’s track and field team is ranked 19th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association indoor preseason poll. The rankings were announced Tuesday.
The Illini are one of two Big Ten teams in the Top 25, joined by No. 10 Penn State.
