Sontag wins 30th match of the season

CHAMPAIGN – Gavin Sontag won his 30th match of the season, becoming the second Illini men's tennis player to win at least 30 in back-to-back seasons, as Illinois beat Purdue 5-2 on Wednesday to stay unbeaten in Big Ten Conference play.
Sontag beat Cris James 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Jerry Turek had consecutive 30-win seasons from 1995-97.
Jeff Laski's 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles clinched the win for the UI, 11-5 overall, 4-0 Big Ten. Cary Franklin, Jakub Teply and Matt Snyder also won singles matches for the UI, which hosts Ohio State at 2 p.m. Friday.
