Illini ousted in qualifying round
|
One University of Illinois singles player and two doubles teams were eliminated Wednesday during qualifying for the ITA National Claycourts tennis tournament in Baltimore.
Junior Oliver Freelove lost in second-round action 7-5, 7-5 to Arizona State's Gustavo Maraccio. Freelove and Cary Franklin lost to a Baylor team in the second round, and Brady Blain and Jeff Laski were defeated in the first round by a Tennessee pair.
The lone Illini remaining in the main singles draw are Franklin and Gavin Sontag, who did not have to qualify because of their No. 43 and No. 51 national rankings, respectively. Both play today.
