Hackett earns honor

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. — Illinois first baseman Meredith Hackett has been
named a first-team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
The sophomore becomes Illinois’ second player to earn first-team honors, joining Jenna Hall. Current junior second baseman Danielle Zymkowitz was a second-team All-American in 2009.
Hackett led the Big Ten with a .418 batting average and ranked third in the conference with 56 RBI. She was fourth in the league with 16 home runs.
Hackett helped the Illini to a 45-8 record and a spot in the finals of the Columbia, Mo., Regional. She had 11 doubles and scored 34 runs.
