YouTube and the Illini
Kicks from the Corner 9-11

Illini soccer fans will want to check out this clip from the team’s public-address announcer, Mike Cation. It’s one of a series devoted to UI soccer that Cation is producing and was shot the week before the team headed to Portland, Ore., for a Sept. 11-13 tournament. Cation’s on-air sidekick is Illinois assistant coach Christian Michner, who does his best to bring a funny/goofy air to the proceedings. You’ll quickly learn that Michner enjoys slipping into a British accent during the various segments. The player guest was freshman Niki Read, who joins Michner to demonstrate some ball tricks (accompanied by the screen message “She’s good” “His accent is not”) and a kicking duel between the two called crossbar (you’ll have to watch to find out who won; we’re not telling). Read later joins Cation to teach him a dance that’s called (we think) the Ricky Bobby. This is pure tongue-in-cheek fun, with Michner displaying real personality. Here’s hoping Cation keeps the Kicks from the Corner coming.
