Jonathan Kuck, on academic leave from Illinois, advanced with two U.S. teammates to Friday night's semifinals in the team pursuit longtrack speedskating event at the Vancouver Olympics.
Kuck, a 19-year-old junior-to-be at Illinois, joined Chad Hedrick and Trevor Marsicano in an easy win over Japan in the quarterfinals.
The U.S. advanced to the semifinals to face the favored Netherlands. The semifinals are set for later Friday with the final on Saturday in the last race of the speedskating program.
