Svihlik swat helps salvage second game

Second baseman D.J. Svihlik's two-run homer capped a three-run fifth inning as Illinois beat Penn State in the second game of a baseball doubleheader 11-5 Saturday at State College, Pa.

Svihlik, who was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and four runs batted in, put the Illini up 9-0 with the blast, his first of the season. Craig Marquie and Kevin Rudden also homered for the Illini, 18-24, 9-10 Big Ten.

Cody Salter, 1-0, pitched all seven innings, allowing four hits and three walks.

In Game 1, Penn State tied it with four runs in the second inning and went ahead with three runs in the third off Illini Brian Hecht en route to an 8-7 win.

In men's golf: Parga fourth.

Ed Parga finished tied for fourth at 3-under 213 in the two-day Legends of Indiana Intercollegiate Invitational in Franklin, Ind.

The Illini, who were tied for second after the first day, finished in a tie for sixth at 887, 29 shots behind first-place Northwestern.
