Illinois baseball shut out

The University of Illinois baseball team lost 1-0 Wednesday to Indiana State at Terre Haute, Ind.

The Illini, 15-18, managed six hits against Sycamore pitcher Brad Finken, but Finken struck out eight and walked none in going nine innings for the victory.

Indiana State, 12-17-1, scored its lone run against Illinois starter Mitch Walk in the second inning. Walk went six innings, allowing six hits and striking out three.

In track: UI signs athletes.

Four athletes have signed letters of intent to compete for the Illinois men's track and field team.

They are: Jeremy Boudreau, a sprinter from Edmond, Okla.; Sherman Armstrong, a hurdler and long jumper from Chicago; Matt Saarima, a middle distance runner from Geneva; and Fabien Carron, a middle distance runner from Nice, France. Also, Eric Sanchez, a middle distance runner from Kearney, Neb., has accepted admission to Illinois and will compete on the team.
