Hurricanes take two from Illini

   The University of Miami baseball team edged Illinois 3-2 on Sunday to complete a sweep of the three-game weekend series in Coral Gables, Fla.

   The Illini, 4-8, led 2-1 on Danny Rhodes'' home run in the top of the eighth before the Hurricanes won the game with two runs in the bottom of the eighth against freshman James Journell, 0-1.

Men''s tennis team takes third.

   The Illini defeated Fresno State 4-1 on Sunday to finish third at the Blue Gray Classic in Montgomery, Ala.

   The UI''s No. 1 doubles team of Brady Blain and Jerry Turek won its match 8-5. Gavin Sontag and Jeff Laski also won their doubles match 9-7.

   In singles, Cary Franklin, Turek and Oliver Freelove each won their matches vs. Fresno State.

   Illinois, which tied Kansas in the tournament, improved to 8-5 overall.

Women''s tennis team 1-1 in Michigan.

   The Illini women''s tennis team lost 6-1 to Michigan Sunday to finish the weekend with a split of road Big Ten dual meets.

   Illinois'' lone victory came at No. 2 singles, where Susanne Land defeated Sora Moon 6-2, 6-4. The Illini, who swept Michigan State 7-0 on Saturday, is 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the Big Ten.
