Mycheal Henry: Cool customer

Recruiting blogger Cody Westerlund caught up with AAU coach Wayne Brumm to discuss Illini recruit Mycheal Henry.

Henry, an Illini verbal commit in the 2011 class, played in two tournaments with the U-17 SYF Players, including AAU Nationals. The team won three of four games in the first tournament with him and placed 12th out of 208 qualifying teams at nationals, Brumm said. But even more importantly, Henry fit in with the team. That's something Brumm highly valued.

"(In years past), we had two kids in the pros now who we turned down in the middle of a season. They were shoe-in pros when they came to us. They are big stars in the NBA right now, both of them," said Brumm, who declined to reveal names. "We turned them down just because we were concerned with chemistry and sharing the ball."

That was never a problem with Henry.

"Don't oversimplify this: He's a very cool kid, easy going. He smiles all the time," Brumm said. "He's a really good kid and could fit in with anybody. He's just a very cool kid."

As I read more and more about Henry from coaches, basketball writers, and scouts around the country I never hear negatives. I hear what an incredible athlete he is and what a great shooter. I am yet to hear negatives other than he can get even better at something. We are getting a real jewel in Henry and he will fit in with our talent and coaching perfectly. Now if we can get football to go where basketball is going we are set. I think with the two new coordinators we are headed in the right direction. From a basketball perspective its all pointing up. Adding Chester to the group of coaches/basketball people on campus just makes us that much better. When you combine a great X and O coach like Bruce, a great recruiter like Snacks, a great and very tough leader like Chester with the kind of talent that we have brought in and with some of the best fans there are basketball is going to be really fun again with no let up in sight! I think recruiting will get even better as our on-court product continuously improves! Its a great time for Illinois Basketball!

Agree with Baytown ... I would just add if we could get 100% more energetic fans into section A we are there.

A section at AH should be set up for the students. The fat cat donors and/or professors should realize that the seats in B section are actually better for viewing basketball and should move up there just a little bit higher. This will make for a better more exciting envirnment.
