Entrenched in early practices, Illinois coach Bruce Weber hasn't devoted much thought to a starting lineup for Friday's exhibition game against Missouri Southern at the Assembly Hall (7 p.m.).

There were more important things to work on, you know.

Weber said today he's leaning toward a starting 5 of juniors Demetri McCamey, Alex Legion, Mike Davis and Mike Tisdale and senior Dominique Keller. But Weber said freshman D.J. Richardson - a virtual lock for a starting position during the regular season - still might be in the exhibition lineup instead of Keller.

"I told those guys I'd probably start the older guys. I might go back and the coaches might disagree," Weber said today at Big Ten media day in Rosemont. "D.J. deserves to start. Whether I do that or not, we'll just have to wait and see."

Either way, a starting lineup for an exhibition game is not an indication of what the starting 5 will look like in the regular season opener. Weber's starting lineup in exhibition openers in 2006, 2007 and 2008 were different from the starting lineups in the regular-season openers in those years.

2008 exhibition opener: Trent Meacham, Chester Frazier, Demetri McCamey, Calvin Brock, Mike Tisdale
2008 regular season opener: Trent Meacham, Chester Frazier, Calvin Brock, Mike Davis, Mike Tisdale

2007 exhibition opener: Jeff Jordan, Trent Meacham, Bill Cole, Brian Randle, Mike Tisdale
2007 regular season opener: Trent Meacham, Chester Frazier, Rodney Alexander, Brian Randle, Shaun Pruitt

2006 exhibition opener: Chester Frazier, Jamar Smith, Calvin Brock, Warren Carter, Shaun Pruitt
2006 regular season opener: Chester Frazier, Jamar Smith, Brian Randle, Warren Carter, Shaun Pruitt

Coach Weber looking forward to another great season with you at the helm. The only advice I would give you is this,if D3 Coach Guenther wants to meet with you on Sunday morning's[see Ron Zook] to look at film, call in sick.Remember he is the one who screamed at you from court-side in the NCAA Game versus Va Tech.He is also the same guy who paid you half of what he was paying Zook!He is also 70-123-2 IN FOOTBALL as AD!Coach this places him last among the 65 BCS schools. If he calls remember just say H1N1!

So Martin09, what the H has this got to do with basketball. Get a life.

I'd agree with jjohnson, why are you talking about the AD in relation to football, in an article about the basketball team? Who cares what his 'record' is as an AD in football, if your going to hold him accountable for football then hold him accountable for his 'record' as an AD overall; such as the consistent winning teams in Basketball and NC in tennis, and quality teams in other sports.
