CHAMPAIGN - Illinois basketball coach Bruce Weber would receive a contract extension and 50-percent pay raise if the proposal is approved in a meeting of the UI Board of Trustees next week.
Weber's total compensation package would go from $1 million annually to $1.25 million. Then on Jan. 15, 2010, it would jump to $1.5 million annually. There is also a proposal to extend Weber's contract through the 2014-15 season.
"He's always been true to his word," Weber said Thursday of athletics director Ron Guenther.
Also on the board's agenda is a raise for assistant coach Jerrance Howard. The proposal states that Howard would make $180,000 annually, up from $120,000.
There is also a one-time bonus of $50,000 and an additional $75,000 bonus if Howard stays at Illinois through the 2012-13 season.
