PORTLAND, Ore. — Tyler Griffey has this bracket thing down. One way or another, he's going to pick a winner.

"I've got five brackets filled out," the Illinois basketball signee said by phone today. "Five different winners."

As fifth-seeded Illinois prepare for Thursday's game against 12th-seeded Western Kentucky, Illini recruits are projecting the results just like the rest of us.

"I've got one of the regions filled out. I think it was the West," recruit D.J. Richardson said today. "Haven't gotten to Illinois yet. Who do they play when they win tomorrow?

Probably Gonzaga, unless Akron pulls an upset.

"Yeah, Gonzaga. That will be tough, but I think they (Illinois) can make it to the third round," Richardson said.

Illinois will hold an open practice this afternoon here at the Rose Garden.

"If they play as well as they can, they can get past Western Kentucky and Gonzaga. UNC would be tough (in the Sweet 16)," Griffey said. "But you never know. I'm looking forward to all the games. They're all going to be great."
