CHAMPAIGN – Just this side of argumentative, Bruce Weber likes to present a unique point of view.

Case in point: an Illinois scouting report.

"I try to be devil's advocate when the (assistant) coaches make a suggestion," Weber said after No. 25 Illinois beat Ohio State 67-49 before 15,549 at the Assembly Hall on Tuesday.

So when second-year assistant Jerrance Howard approached Weber, a 30-year coaching veteran, with the idea of putting 6-foot-2 Chester Frazier on 6-7 Evan Turner, the head coach countered:

Then who's going to defend William Buford, the reigning Big Ten Player of the Week? Or Jon Diebler, who ended his prep career as Ohio's leading career scorer?

Even if he knew the answer, Weber found it worthy of a discussion. And Ohio State had no answer for Illinois' balanced scoring (four players in double figures for the eighth time) or its defense (which held the Buckeyes to its second-lowest scoring total this season).

"I think you look across the board and each guy (on the UI roster) has improved," said Ohio State (13-4, 3-3 Big Ten) coach Thad Matta, whose team had won five straight against the Illini.

The better question is, How do you scout Illinois?

At least three Illini (16-3, 4-2) have scored in double figures in all six Big Ten games. Illinois is one of two Big Ten teams with four players averaging at least 11 points (Purdue).

More important, no one's asking for more shots, and if they did, no one would listen.

"We don't care who scores," said Demetri McCamey (13 points). "We want W's."

Just as reserve Alex Legion busted out for 15 points in a loss at Michigan State on Saturday, reserve Dominique Keller surprised with 12 points against Ohio State.

"Last year we had guys that were maybe focused more on their stats," said Mike Tisdale (game-high 15 points). "This year I think everybody's out for the wins."

After losing at No. 7 Michigan State, Weber said the theme was, "Don't let one disappointing loss create two losses." And no one argued with him.

"I'm having a ball. We're just playing team ball," Keller said. "Nobody's worried about going to the NBA. They're out there playing for Illinois. That's what it's all about."

GAME 19 REVIEW

What happened: Behind a zipper-tight defense led by Chester Frazier — and scoring from up and down the roster — Illinois ended a five-game losing streak to Ohio State. The Illini improved to 10-1 at home and bounced back from a loss to Michigan State with an inspired performance.

What it means: Illinois might be the toughest team to scout in the Big Ten. Ohio State coach Thad Matta commented on its balanced scoring, and the UI had four players in double figures for the eighth time this season. It’s tough to defend when you don’t know who will score.

What the Illini said: “That’s why I ran out with the flag. I was happy we finally got a black president in office. I saw the flag, so I felt real good about it. It’s about time.” — forward Dominique Keller, who carried a miniature American flag before player introductions

What the Buckeyes said:
“Every time you take the floor for every Big Ten game you play, you’ve got to be ready. You take wins, you celebrate them for 15 minutes and you’ve got to shift gears and get ready for the next game. Same thing with a loss.” — coach Thad Matta

What’s next:
Another Big Ten rival that owns a five-game winning streak against the Illini. Illinois hasn’t beaten Wisconsin, which visits the Assembly Hall on Saturday (3 p.m., ESPN) since a 66-51 win at Madison in 2006.
