Koschmann claims crown

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Illinois' Hailey Koschmann posted a wire-to-wire victory Tuesday at the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational.

Koschmann had a final-round 75 (214 total) to finish 3 strokes ahead of Chattanooga's Emma de Groot.

South Florida won the team title at 898, and the Illini placed second at 904.

Langley, Illini take second. UI junior Scott Langley carded a third-round 73 (209 total) and finished second Tuesday at the LA Classics Invitational in Lafayette, La.

The 13th-ranked Illini, who were tied for the lead after two rounds, finished second in the team standings, 2 strokes behind LSU.

The Tigers finished at 864 to claim the crown.

"We were competitive and beat some good teams, but at the same time we want to win," UI coach Mike Small said.

Nevolo rates honor. Illinois sophomore tennis player Dennis Nevolo was selected as the Co-Big Ten Athlete of the Week with Ohio State sophomore Chase Buchanan, the league announced Tuesday.

Nevolo went 4-0 in singles and doubles in last week's victories against No. 17 Texas A&M and No. 34 Northwestern.
