Women golfers finish fifth

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — Kaitlyn Wampler shot a 3-over-par 75 to lead the Illinois women’s golf team to a fifth-place finish in the Ron Moore Intercollegiate on Wednesday.
The Illini sophomore carded a 54-hole total of 224, 9 strokes behind medalist Stephanie Sherlock of Denver. Sophomore Samantha Sloan was the UI’s No. 2 scorer, shooting a final-round 74 to tie for 23rd at 232.
Illinois shot a 304 on the final day to finish at 912. Denver won the 13-team tournament by 14 shots with an 879.
