Langley starts fast at U.S. Am

Illinois' Scott Langley shot even-par 70 Monday and is 2 shots off the lead after the first round of the U.S. Amateur Championship in Tulsa, Okla.

Langley, playing the Cedar Ridge Country Club course, is tied for sixth. He trails leader Tim Jackson of Germantown, Tenn., who shot 68 on the Southern Hills Country Club course.

Langley's teammate, Zach Barlow, shot 72 at Cedar Ridge and is tied for 28th. Champaign Central product Clayton Parkhill fired a 73 at Cedar Ridge and is tied for 45th. Illinois Luke Guthrie shot 9-over at Southern Hills, while the UI's Mason Jacobs came in at 13-over at Southern Hills

Wrestling adds three. First-year coach Jim Heffernan on Monday announced the addition of three wrestlers to the program. Mario Gonzalez (197 pounds) of Aurora, Nate Millman (149) of Park Ridge and John Van Duyne (149) of Wilmington all started classes at Illinois on Monday.

Van Duyne was a two-time state champion during his high school career and Gonzalez captured a state title earlier this year. The trio joins early signees Sam White and Tony dallago in Heffernan's first recruiting class.
