UI's Nuger in running at Big Ten
LAUDERDALE, Minn. – Illinois' Larry Nuger is tied for the individual lead after two rounds of the Big Ten Men's Golf Championship.
Nuger, whose 68 and 69 made him the only golfer in the 60s for both rounds, is bidding to become the UI's first Big Ten medalist since Jamie Fairbanks in 1993.
Nuger and Iowa's Matt Stutzman are at 137, 1 stroke ahead of defending NCAA champion James McLean of Minnesota on the Les Bolstad Golf Course.
The Illini are in sixth place, 15 strokes off the pace. Northwestern has a team total of 565 and leads Minnesota by 1 shot. Michigan State and Iowa are tied for third, 11 strokes back. Fifth-place Ohio State is 1 shot ahead of Illinois at 579.
Other UI leaders include D.A. Points and Tim Riley, who are tied for 25th at 147. Points shot a 71 and Riley a 72 in the second round. Ed Parga is tied for 39th at 150, and Mark Henderson is tied for 46th at 152.
