Nothing is ever a given with Illini football, but there are 6 winnable games on that schedule.

Being an optimist I would say 8 winnable games.

Itis silly to concede so early.

FINALLY! These schedules make great seasons and bowl destinations - you've got to pad it with cupcakes! This is how and why the power house schools like Nebraska and Ohio State (just to name a couple) have great seasons and consistently make it to a BCS game. Thank you Ron Guenther!

Hey Earl, do you call the U of Miami (FL) a cupcake for Ohio State, or USC a couple years ago.

Not a very good home schedule in 2012, with Penn State the only "marquee" game. Also don't like the 4 week gap between home games (September 29-October 27) right during prime fall weather.

I sure hope that illiniearl actually buys a ticket and goes to games, because for those of us who do and travel some distance and at some expense to do so, "cupcakes" are only saccharine sweet.

Earl makes a good point, statistically the Illini have been playing the hardest non-conference schedule the past three years

"""Here’s my math.

Combined regular-season record of FBS non-conference opponents the last three seasons:

Illinois: 80-28

Ohio State: 64-44

Purdue 64-44

Minnesota: 59-49

Michigan State: 56-52

Penn State: 54-54

Iowa: 50-58

Michigan: 48-60

Wisconsin: 46-62

Indiana: 40-68

Northwestern: 27-81

Not a misprint. Checked my numbers 3 times. The last non-conference team we’ve played that had a losing record was Syracuse in 2007. The last non-conference team that Northwestern has played that had a WINNING record was Nevada in 2006.

And that has made all the difference."""

Thank you Camazing! Your stat backs up my point that there no need to show how tough we are in nonconference. We haven't succeeded with a tougher non conf schedule. It's about time we got smart. We've now officially lowered the bar, but the reality is this program has never been consistently good enough to beat good teams let alone very good teams.
