I just think it would be dumb not to have actual east- west divisions. I know putting penn st, ohio st, and michigan in one division would be tough but wisconsin, nebraska and iowa would be in the other so i dont see what the difference would be?

If this is the way it shakes out, several rivalry games will probably not be played annually anymore: Iowa-MN (Floyd of Rosedale), MN-Michigan (Little Brown Jug), a couple of others. And that would be a shame, because the rivalry games are the cream of the college football crop.

There's no way possible to keep all, or even most of the rivalry games. As Guenther said, schools need to pick their prime rivalry and preserve that.

Would the division breakdown affect any sports besides Football? Or is that purely for the gridiron? Would you, for example, always play your division rivals home-away in Basketball, and the two one-game-only teams would be chosen from the other division?
