Asmussen: Illinois 5-7

Think Asmussen's crazy? Ask him about his picks here.

Here is college football beat writer Bob Asmussen's look at the 2010 Illinois schedule:

DATE OPPONENT TIME/TV WIN/LOSS

Sept. 4 vs. Missouri 11:30 a.m./FSN Loss

Rash of Illini injuries in the secondary should have Tigers quarterback Blaine Gabbert smiling from ear to ear

Sept. 11 vs. Southern Illinois 6:30 p.m./BTN Win

Against current Missouri Valley schools, Illinois is 6-0 all time, with two wins against the Salukis

Sept. 18 vs. Northern Illinois 11 a.m./BTN Win

The Huskies took the 2001 Big Ten champions to the wire, losing 17-12

Oct. 2 vs. Ohio State TBA/TBA Loss

There's a decent chance Terrelle Pryor and the Buckeyes could enter Memorial Stadium ranked No. 1

Oct. 9 at Penn State 11 a.m./TBA Loss

If you're going to State College, get plenty of photos of the elder gentleman roaming the sidelines for the Nittany Lions

Oct. 16 at Michigan State 11 a.m./TBA Loss

As middle linebackers go, there haven't been many better in the country than Spartans star Greg Jones

Oct. 23 vs. Indiana 11 a.m./TBA Win

It's the first break in what is a nasty Big Ten schedule for the Illini, who want revenge after last year's loss in Bloomington

Oct. 30 vs. Purdue TBA/TBA Loss

Look out for first-year Boilermakers quarterback Robert Marve, a Miami transfer who could be the league's newcomer of the year

Nov. 6 at Michigan TBA/TBA Win

Last time Illinois won three in a row against the Wolverines? The streak was actually four from 1950 to '53

Nov. 13 vs. Minnesota TBA/TBA Win

First trip back to Memorial Stadium for the Gophers since they stunned the 2008 Illini

Nov. 20 at Northwestern 2:30 p.m./ESPNU Loss

Good news for those visiting Wrigley Field: the Cubs can't possibly lose. Somewhere, George Halas is smiling

Dec. 3 at Fresno State 9:15 p.m./ESPN2 Loss

Here's hoping the game is close to as exciting as last year's model in Champaign, a one-pointer decided at the buzzer

I agree, except for the NIU game. The Huskies will come into this game pumped up at another shot to knock off the flagship school, as you mention almost happened in 2001. I fear that will be an L, not a W.

I'm not drinking this Orange Kool-Aide and then lying down on the Quad. I will be shocked if we go 2-10, surprised if we go 1-11, and predicting 0-12.

Nothing like optimism to start the season! I guess we won't have to ask you to keep your negativity away from Memorial Stadium this fall.

I'm guessing 7-5. And I don't drink any Kool-aid.

1-11, the only one beatable is Southern. But Gunther will say we need to give RON another 5 years to get to 2-10. Book it.

If Illinois wins 4 games, it will be a miracle. They don't have much talent and their coaches don't know what they are doing.

Illinois will play to win in each game. The other team will too. Which ever team makes the fewest mistakes will win. OU may be an exception, but every other game is a toss up. It is up to the fans to bring their game to the stadium. If they do not then they are the real losers.
