Our take: There has never been another recruit like him in Illinois history. He is 25. He's a husband and a father. He has done hard time at a federal prison for armed robbery. He is the brother of one of Illinois' greatest receivers. Bottom line: He wouldn't be at Illinois if the coaches didn't think he could help immediately. He's got two years to make an impact but expect him to be on the field for the opener against Missouri. Whether he starts depends on how well he makes the adjustment from junior college. Being on campus this semester helps.
Why Illinois? "Coach Zook and Coach Disch. They're great guys. I have a special relationship with them already dealing with them through my brother."
What's your favorite moment in football? "The morning my daughter (Tatum) was born, she was born at 8:30. We played our rivals, Joliet, at 1 o'clock. I was dead tired because I stayed up all night. I had a good game. They were about to score on us for the winning touchdown and I intercepted the ball. That was big for me."
Favorite football player, college or pro: "Brian Dawkins. He's old and he still plays like he's young. His body is in perfect shape. He has a strong faith in God. I'd like to meet him one day."
What school do you want to see the Big Ten add? "Notre Dame. I want to play against them."
College football playoff or BCS? "Playoffs. I think the whole computer thing is ridiculous. TCU, Boise, all those guys, they need a chance."
What is your hidden talent? "I can change a diaper pretty fast. If I'm not busy, I'll jump up to do it. I like to do it."
Are you playing in the Missouri game? "I hope so. That's the plan."
What do you need to improve most before the start of the season? "Probably my man-to-man coverage. I don't think I could have done it without spring ball."
