Mark Wilson
Linebacker
Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln
6-2, 225

Our take: One of the earliest to commit to the current class, he had offers from the Big Ten, SEC and Big East. One of the highest-rated players among the incoming Illini, he had a chance during the season to observe his future team and project where he fits in. He should be on the field for the opener against Missouri.

Why Illinois? "The coaching staff was one of the first things. I fell in love with coach Ron Zook and coach (Dan) Disch. That was the main reason. I also chose them because of early playing time."

What's your favorite moment in football? "My last game of my high school career, me and my younger brother (Marcus) walked out as captains."
Favorite football player, college or pro: "I like Ray Lewis."

College football playoff or BCS? "I prefer the playoffs. I don't really like the BCS system."

What is your hidden talent? "I can draw."

Are you playing in the Missouri game? "Yes, sir. Hopefully, Missouri wins the coin toss and I'll be flying down on the kickoff team."

What do you need to improve most before the start of the season? "Making my reads and making the right steps. I was watching film from this year, and I made a lot of small mistakes. Even though I made a lot of big plays, I also made some mistakes and missed a few tackles. I want to be better at the smaller things."
