Anthony Williams is an Illini
Anthony Williams
Receiver
Virginia Beach (Va.) Atlantic Shores Christian
6-4, 195
Our take: Williams, who had interest from a handful of ACC schools, could grow into a tight end. But, initially, he will be tried at receiver. The Illinois receivers got hit by graduation and defections. Somebody needs to step in for holes vacated by Arrelious Benn, Chris Duvalt and Cordale Scott. Williams can move high into the rotation if he can impress the coaches during Camp Rantoul.
Why Illinois? "I have some family out there. I like the coaches a lot. I feel like it's a good fit for me. I was getting recruited by the old staff. The coach went back, and he got fired. I thought Illinois was basically done with me. But then I got a call from Coach Petrino."
What's your favorite moment in football? "When we were in the playoffs against Blue Ridge, I made a touchdown at the game that I thought was going to seal the win. That would have put us in the state championship game. But they went down and scored really quick with a catch."
Favorite football player, college or pro: "I like Chad Ochocinco. I like the way he carries himself on the field and off the field."
What school do you want to see the Big Ten add? "Notre Dame."
College football playoff or BCS? "Playoff."
What is your hidden talent? "I can jump rope."
Are you playing in the Missouri game? "I hope so."
What do you need to improve most before the start of the season? "Getting faster. I'm going to come to school in June."
