SATURDAY'S STARS
ERIC DECKER, Minnesota. He didn't play, but he made news. The wide receiver will have surgery to fix torn ligaments in his left foot, ending his college career and complicating his status for the NFL draft. He'll need eight months of rehabilitation before he's at full speed again, eliminating his chance to participate in the NFL combine.
BRANDON WEGHER, Iowa. While his quarterback was alternating between awful (five interceptions) and great (back-to-back TD passes), Wegher was the Hawkeyes' steady rock, rushing for a career-high 118 yards and three touchdowns. Ricky Stanzi owes him a steak dinner.
DARYLL CLARK, Penn State. For a while Saturday he wasn't the best quarterback on the field. Then Mike Kafka got hurt, and Clark got hot. He finished 22 of 31 for 274 yards and one touchdown and ran for a score in the Nittany Lions' comeback win.
AARON PETTREY, Ohio State. He handled his kicking chores fine, but he didn't escape unscathed. An apparent knee injury to his kicking leg left his status uncertain as the Buckeyes head to Penn State for a crucial game next Saturday.
SATURDAY'S QUOTES
"I've never been in a game like this. I've never seen a game like this." – Iowa coach KIRK FERENTZ after the Hawkeyes rallied from a 24-14 fourth-quarter deficit.
"I think that affected them. I think the kid came in and did a good job. (Mike) Kafka was really playing well in the first half. He had us on our heels." – Penn State linebacker SEAN LEE on Northwestern's quarterback, injured in the second quarter.
"It will be fun going back to Pennsylvania. We'll be ready to go. I always want to play in tough stadiums against tough teams. Those (Nittany Lions) fans will try to tear me up because they were one of my choices." – Ohio State quarterback TERRELLE PRYOR, a native of Jeannette, Pa., on playing at Penn State next Saturday.
BOWL FORECAST
LOOKING GOOD: Wisconsin. The Badgers pummeled a Purdue team that hadn't done much wrong lately. It marked the sixth win for Wisconsin, making the Badgers bowl eligible again. A warm-weather bowl trip has become an annual rite for Bucky Badger.
LOOKING BAD: Michigan. Oh, my. September must seem like so long ago for Rich Rodriguez and the once-promising Wolverines. They must win one of their last three (Purdue, Wisconsin and Ohio State) to become bowl eligible. The way they're going, that isn't a gimme.
