5 O'Clock Shadow

News you can't leave work without:

Illinois football coach Ron Zook said he'd open up the kicking competition between Derek Dimke and Matt Eller.

Eller had handled all the place-kicking until missing a 23-yard field goal attempt at the end of the first half against Purdue. Dimkie kicked the first extra point of his career in the second half.

Here's what beat writer Bob Asmussen thinks:

"Eller is in a mental funk. And Dimke has shown he can make the kicks. Why not give him a chance? You can't miss a 23-yarder."

When it comes to this team, anything is possible. You can't miss a 23-yarder? . .of course, the Illini can . . .If Eller could miss the short kick in the Indiana game which would have put his team up 10-3, he certainly can miss one even shorter than that . . .and so can Derek Dimke . . the beat goes on . .
