Guenther: No change at top

Illinois athletic director Ron Guenther just held a brief press conference at halftime. Here's what he had to say:

"The question that has come up and continues to come up is and continues to come up: Is there a change in Champaign? The reason the BTN (Big Ten Network) got it is because Glen Mason and I are going to have dinner next week. I said, 'Let's put one thing to rest. There will be some changes, but there won't be a change on the top.' There's a great deal of frustration, obviously, with the program at the moment. That's all I've got to say."

Guenther said the program will continue to be evaluated.

"I think it was really unfair to start jumping, at the end of the fifth year, on the guy. That's what I wanted to put aside. We're going to sit down and evaluate certainly. But there is no decision at the top."

Thanks Ron - You have made my decision to not renew my season tickets much easier

When alumni fans realize and act like this is our team and not Ron's, things will change. Until then he is the king he surely acts like.

Wow. Just shows that the lunch site will have a table for two under the name Clueless.

Completely short-sighted to make a statement like this at this time. The program will continue to struggle with a thought process like this.

RG is the boss we'd all love to have.

It is time for other entities, like the News Gazette, to turn up the heat even more. They've done well, but looks like they need to turn it up even more.

Well, it may not RG's call if the Board of Trustees gets rid of him _AND_ Coach Zook...

I think its time for Ron Guenther to get fired. We need new blood from top to bottom in the football program.

Seriously!!! Five years is not enough to recognize things are going nowhere! Good programs do not let coaches continue to bury their program. I never had an opinion on RG before even though I was not in favor of hiring Zook. Now, I agree with the masses on the message boards... Guenther needs to go too.

It was nice to see the boys did not quit. It is disappointing seeing good players never grow.

Himey, you have outdone yourself for bad taste. "Halfbreed"? What the H is that supposed to mean?

IlliniHimey wrote on October 24, 2009 at 11:10 pm

Halfbreed is honor of Cher.

JJohnson and others. My account has been hijacked. First time logging in tonight. Interesting posts, to say the least. Not coming from me.

Get rid of Zook / Get rid of Guenther / Lower ticket prices!

or

Take out a loan to watch a p--s poor program and to support the already wealthy coaching staff!
