CHAMPAIGN – There will be two new starters at receiver for Illinois on Saturday. And one starter returning after missing most of the Missouri game.

Sophomore Cordale Scott will start at one spot and either Fred Sykes or Chris James will start at the other. They will replace Chris Duvalt and A.J. Jenkins, who both struggled in the opener against Missouri.

Jenkins deflected a pass that was intercepted by Missouri's Hardy Ricks. Jenkins finished the game with no catches. Duvalt had two catches for 16 yards.

"We're going to change the Z position between Cordale and Chris James, they're going to share that role as starters," Illinois receivers coach Jim Pry said Wednesday. "Fred Sykes is going to start as an inside guy."

Pry said dropped passes will cost players their starting positions.

"We've got enough guys in our room, we're not going to put up with that," Pry said. "If you drop balls in the games, you're not going to be on the field."

The benched players will have a chance to regain their spots, Pry said.

"When someone's about to take your position, you seem to get fired up a little bit," Pry said.

Arrelious Benn, who is recovering from a sprained ankle, and Jarred Fayson will be the other two starting receivers against Illinois State.

Benn practiced Wednesday and showed little signs of the injury, Pry said.

"I can't tell," Pry said. "Maybe you can tell."

Any plans to hold Benn back?

"You try and slow Rejus down," Pry said. "I can't."

Benn even went back to work as a kick returner Wednesday.

"He just jumped back there and said, 'I'm all right,' " Illinois coach Ron Zook said.

"He wants to play. We want him to play. And he'll play, barring anything else."

Benn looked ready to practice Monday but was held out until Tuesday, Pry said.

"He's full speed, ready to roll," Pry said.
