Monday morning at Camp Rantoul

Twice a day — at noon and 5 p.m. — beat writer Bob Asmussen will check in with updates from Camp Rantoul. E-mail him questions at asmussen@news-gazette.com.

Here is Monday's first report:

- Former Chicago Hubbard star Darius Purcell, who left the team after the 2007 season, is back on the roster. The defensive back bumped into Ron Zook during the summer 7-on-7 tournament, and Zook invited him to rejoin the team. He will be in uniform when the team begins practice at 3:30 p.m.

- 2008 News-Gazette All-State Player of the Year Terry Hawthorne is expected to increase his workload in Tuesday's 3:30 p.m. practice. The freshman receiver from East St. Louis has been limited because of hand surgery.

- Zook has decided to change his punting formation. Instead of the traditional style, the Illini will be using the rugby style punt.

- Players reported to Rantoul on Sunday night. Everyone on the roster who was expected to show up did, the UI's Cassie Arner said.

More at 5 p.m.

Didn't he learn his lesson with the rugby punt stuff in his first season here? It didn't work then, so what is different now that will make it work?

It's not April 1, but is the rugby punt comment a joke?
