Former Illinois defensive line coach Tom Sims has taken the same position at Kansas. Sims, who spent the last four years at Illinois, replaces Kerry Locklin, who left for a job with the New York Jets.

“We are glad to have Tom on our coaching staff,” Kansas coach Mark Mangino said in a story released by the school.  “He brings great experience as a coach and as a former NFL defensive lineman.”

Sims went to work immediately for the Jayhawks, with his family set to join him in Lawrence during the spring.

It will be the fifth coaching stop for the former NFL linemen. Besides Illinois, Sims has also worked at Minnesota, Eastern Michigan and Western Kentucky.

The Detroit native played at Western Michigan and Pitt.

Congratulations to Tom. He's a good man and deserves to land in a good spot.
