Darryl Lee Q&A
Two minutes with: Darryl Lee
Staff writer Bob Asmussen's chat with the future Illini linebacker
You just made your official visit to Illinois last weekend. How did the trip go?
"It was a good trip. I love the fans. I love the crowd. I love how it was Saturday night. It was a little bit different than my earlier visit. It was more detailed."
Since you have committed, are you recruiting other players to Illinois?
"I'm trying to sell them, trying to get as much as we can so we can have a national championship."
Several of the Illinois players ran up into the stands after beating Indiana. What did you think?
"I was up there when that happened. I like that. That was nice."
Are you eager to start your college career?
"I'm very excited. I just can't wait. I'll be there in the summer."
What are you going to study?
"Music and business management."
So, you have musical talents?
"Yes, I do. I play the piano. I can play the drums. And I can sing. I sing R&B. I sing a variety of music. It doesn't matter. Everybody pretty much knows."
How are things going for you this season at St. Augustine (Fla.) High?
"We're doing good right now. We're 6-0 and we just beat our biggest rival. We have five more games and then we have playoffs. We play deep into December. I'm playing end, tight end and wide receiver. I used to play linebacker. They needed help at the D-line, so I told them I would go down. I've got six sacks."
Is it going to be hard to leave Florida?
"Not really. That was not an issue for me. I don't mind traveling. The weather was OK. It was pretty cold, but it was all right."
Was it a relief to make the decision to go to Illinois?
"It was a big relief. Now, I'm just focusing on my career in high school football, then I'll get ready for Illini football."
