CHAMPAIGN - The Illinois women's track and field team will be taking an additional two individuals and one relay team to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

The NCAA on Tuesday announced at-large selections for next week's national meet, a list that included Illini junior Aja Evans, sophomore Melissa Bates and the UI 1,600-meter relay team.

Evans will compete in the shot put, in which she ranks fifth nationally with a season-best throw of 54 feet, 9 1/4 inches. Bates joined the field in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 53.39 seconds, which ranks 24th.

The UI 1,600 relay of senior Deserea Brown, senior Omoye Ugiagbe, freshman Ryisha Boyd and Bates earned a bid based on its season-best time of 3:34.75, ranked 15th.

Four other Illini previously earned automatic qualifications by finishing among the top five in their respective event at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships in Louisville, Ky., last week. That group includes junior Angela Bizzarri (5,000), Brown (400 hurdles), freshman Latoya Griffith (400 hurdles) and sophomore Chantelle Groenewoud (3,000 steeplechase).

The NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held June 10-13 at Fayetteville, Ark.
