UI men dominate alumni in cross-country opener

Senior Scott McClennan took first as the Illinois men's cross-country team opened the season Saturday against the UI alumni.

McClennan covered 5 kilometers at South Farms in 15 minutes, 42 seconds. The Illini grabbed the top seven spots.

Junior Mike Lucchesi was second in 15:54, followed by junior Dan Horyn (15:56), sophomore Caleb Grinter (16:02) and freshman Tim Moran (16:05).

Rantoul graduate Andrew Kurtz was 10th (16:27), and former Prairie Central standout Ryan Young was 12th (17:04).

Dave Walters, a 1977 All-American, was eighth to lead the alumni.

Hennessy leads women

Katie Hennessy was third as four UI women competed in a three-team meet at Parkland College.
