Law's contract extended
Our story on Hartleb coming back
Illinois has agreed to extend women's basketball coach Jolette Law's contract two years through April 30, 2014. The recommendation will be acted on at Thursday's trustees meeting in Chicago.
Her original contract called for Law, 49-51 and without an NCAA tournament appearance in three seasons at Illinois, to make $160,000 in base salary, $75,000 for radio and television appearances and $75,000 in educational and promotional activities.
Raises or contract extensions are in line for other Illinois coaches.
Baseball coach Dan Hartleb's base pay goes to $91,000 in a contract that runs through 2013.
Assistant men's basketball coach Jerrance Howard's base pay will be $180,000 through April 30, 2011. It goes to $190,000 in 2011-12, $200,000 in 2012-13 and $210,000 in 2013-14. If Howard remains at Illinois through 2014, he will receive a one-time $100,000 payment.
Men's golf coach Mike Small will make $85,000 through 2013.
Softball coach Terri Sullivan's base salary will be upped to $102,000 through 2015.
Soccer coach Janet Rayfield's base salary goes to $92,000 through 2013.
WHAT?!?!
seriously.
WHAT?!?!?
Law has has gone 20-34 in the Big Ten, just lost one of the best players ever at this school (that she didn't recruit), hasn't finished in the top half of the league, hasn't made the tournament, and she gets a raise and a 2 year extension after half of her recruits have left?
what the heck is wrong with this athletic department.
in addition, Hartleb hasn't done anything, and we re-up him for 3 more years?
Law being given an EXTENSION is an absolute freaking JOKE. This team has been a total derailment during her entire tenure.
Janet Rayfield making that much less than her monetarily is also really just plain sad. I'm glad she's helping out in the WPS (Chicago Red Stars) this summer because her talents at Illinois have very obviously not been recognized or rewarded by the Athletic Director.
Disgusting.
