Baseball takes positive steps despite result
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Illinois baseball team can take plenty of positives from its 7-5 loss to East Carolina on Friday at the seventh annual Keith LeClair Classic.
The Illini, who got two RBI apiece from Willie Argo and Aaron Johnson, led the 19th-ranked Panthers 4-3 before surrendering a four-run seventh.
"We played hard," Illinois coach Dan Hartleb said. "We struck out too much, and when we have scoring innings, we need to turn around and put zeroes on the board in the next inning. But we continued to play hard when things didn't go well, and we saw some good things from our guys."
Trailing 3-1 to start the seventh, Argo had an RBI double and Johnson hit a two-run double to give Illinois (1-3) the lead.
In men's tennis:
Illini top Aggies. Connor Roth's three-set victory clinched No. 12 Illinois' 5-2 win against No. 17 Texas A&M.
The Illini, who lost the doubles point, also got singles wins from Dennis Nevolo, Johnny Hamui and Abe Souza.
No. 43 Nevolo upset No. 33 Jeff Dadamo 6-1, 6-2.
