   Scherr, an All-Big Ten middle blocker for the University of Illinois team, will serve as an analyst on radio broadcasts this season.

CHAMPAIGN – Her team won first place, and she found a college home.

Not a shabby four days for Dawn Vana at the University of Illinois women's basketball team camp.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Violations uncovered by the University of Louisville in its volleyball program occurred after current University of Illinois coach Don Hardin left the Kentucky school, a U of L official said Thursday.

"Don Hardin had absolutely nothing to do with any of them," said Ray Nystrand, U of L assistant to the president for intercollegiate athletics.

CHAMPAIGN – Cristy Chapman did indeed request that No. 7 on her uniform. And with good reason.

Just not the one a lot of University of Illinois volleyball watchers apparently have been assuming.

"A lot of people have said that," the junior transfer from Louisville said Saturday when asked if she wanted No. 7 because it was worn by Kelly Scherr.

CHAMPAIGN – With five of six starters returning next volleyball season, Don Hardin doesn't necessarily need immediate help from his latest recruiting class.

The University of Illinois coach did, however, need to start rebuilding both the program's depth and its bridges to the talent-rich Chicago area.
