Illinois senior Angela Bizzarri is a nominee for the Honda Sports Award for cross-country, the Collegiate Women Sports Awards announced Tuesday.

The eight-time All-American earned the nomination a day after winning the NCAA Championships in a school-record 6-kilometer time of 19 minutes, 46.8 seconds.

The three other nominees are Washington sophomore Kendra Schaaf, Florida State senior Susan Kuijken and Virginia junior Catherine White. Schaaf, Kuijken and White finished second, third and fourth, respectively, at the national meet Monday in Terre Haute, Ind.

The winner will be announced Dec. 4 and becomes eligible for the Honda-Broderick Cup, which is annually given to the nation's outstanding female collegiate athlete. The winner of that award will be announced June 21.

In women's swimming:

Novitsky signs nine. Illini coach Sue Novitsky this week announced the signings of nine swimmers, including an Olympic trials qualifier, to national letters of intent.

The recruiting class, which will join the team in fall 2010, includes Andrea Baumgartner of Aurora Waubonsie Valley; Elizabeth Bell of Anna-Jonesboro; Cara Chuang of Clarksburg, Md.; Jessica Holz of Ellisville, Mo.; Courtney Pope of Lockport; Marin Thompson of Jackson, Wis.; Alyssa Toland of Lincoln-Way East; Emily Wilkinson of Downers Grove North; and Emma Williams of Naperville North.

Chuang was a 2008 Olympic Team Trials qualifier in the 100-meter backstroke and is one of six USA Swimming national qualifiers in the signing class.

Last weekend, Bell won the IHSA state title in the 50-yard freestyle and placed fourth in the 100 butterfly. Pope finished third at state in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 500 freestyle.

In women's golf:

Slone lands ranked duo. Illini coach Renee Slone this week announced the signings of two top-50 golfers to national letters of intent.

Jackie Calamaro of Newtown Square, Pa., and Ember Schuldt of Sterling will join the team next fall.

Schuldt and Calamaro are 46th and 48th, respectively, in the American Junior Golf Association Class of 2010 rankings.

Calamaro is a two-time Pennsylvania State Women's Golf Association junior girls' champion. Schuldt was the 2008 Illinois Junior Golf Association junior girls' champion and 2009 runner-up.
