Softball players honored

URBANA – Designated player Katrina Ross and second baseman Danielle Zymkowitz earned All-Big Ten first-team honors for Illinois, the league announced Wednesday.

Right fielder Hope Howell took a spot on the second team, and left fielder Hollie Pinchback and third baseman Kelley Wedel were selected for the third team.

Ross hit .352 with 22 RBI in Big Ten action, and Zymkowitz reached base at least once in 41 of 44 contests.

In men's golf:

Squad climbs in poll. Coach Mike Small's squad jumped from 12th to 10th in the final Golf World/Nike Division I coaches poll of the spring.

In men's tennis:

Nevolo rates award. Freshman Dennis Nevolo was selected as the Midwest Region Rookie of the Year, and Roy Kalmanovich earned Midwest Region Player to Watch honors, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced.

In women's tennis:

Assistant feted. Illinois' Dave Emery was named the Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year by the ITA.

Emery and head coach Michelle Dasso led the Illini to the second round of the NCAA tournament and third place in the Big Ten.
