BRIANNA JONES
6-foot-2, Forward, Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic
Left-hander averaged 14.3 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.5 blocks. Ranked 43rd by Blue Star. Picked Illinois over Indiana and Iowa. Played on the same AAU team (Michigan Crossover) as Destiny Williams.
Bleill's comment: Nicknamed "Crunch," she is a prototypical power forward with a strong body and willingness to bang.
Q: Why did you pick Illinois?
A: I picked the University of Illinois because of the coaches and players. Coach Law has a great vision for the program and knows what it will take to get to the next level and it's an up-and-coming program. Her coaching staff is all energetic and is looking forward to making their players better on and off the court. The players were real accepting and made it feel like home, which I am looking for.
Q: What did you know about the University of Illinois and its women's basketball program before the recruiting process began?
A: Before the recruiting process began, honestly all I knew was that their colors were blue and orange.
Q: Who has had the biggest influence on your basketball career?
A: The biggest influence on my basketball career is my family: Darryl, Kenyetta, and Brittany Jones. They helped me get to where I am today and pushed me when I wanted to quit. I know without them, I wouldn't be where I am now. My grandparents also had an influence on me. After they passed, that was my motivation to get better and work harder.
Q: Which of your basketball accomplishments brings the most pride?
A: I am most proud of winning the city championship my junior year; getting to the state semifinals; making the All-Toledo Blade team; being first team all-city, all-district, all-state, and being ranked nationally.
Q: Three words that describe your play on the court:
A: Physical, versatile, confident.
