Ean Days
Defensive back
Kingsland (Ga.) Camden County
5-11, 190
Our take: Days was Camden County's leading rusher and a standout linebacker as a senior, leading the Wildcats to their second consecutive Georgia Class 5A state title. But he will make the switch to safety, where Illinois lacks depth and experience. Days could be an early contributor on special teams, but it likely will take him a year or two to develop into a starter. Though, we thought the same about Walt Aikens last year.
Why Illinois? "It just felt like home out there in Champaign when I went there last weekend. It was my first offer from the Big Ten, and ever since they offered me last spring during my junior year, I just liked their program."
Favorite football player, college or pro: "Adrian Peterson."
What school do you want to see the Big Ten add? "I would say Georgia Tech. They were supposed to offer me and never did, so I would want to play against them."
College football playoff or BCS? "I would say it needs to be a playoff because then you can really see who needs to be in the big game."
Are you playing in the Missouri game? "That's up to the coaches. I know I'm going to come in there ready to play. I'm going to try to be ready to go, but that's up to the coaches."
What do you need to improve most before the start of the season? "I guess I've never really played defensive back. One of my friends goes to Wake Forest and he's pretty good, Kevin Patterson. I'm going to start training with him to make me better."
