Perry rewarded with promotion  (Tuesday, November 3, 2009)

CHAMPAIGN — First-year Illinois wrestling coach Jim Heffernan announced on Tuesday the promotion of assistant coach Carl Perry to associate head coach.
Perry, who is in his eighth year on the staff, has helped coach 19 All-Americans and six NCAA finalists.

UI volleyball team outlasts Indiana  (Friday, October 30, 2009)

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Laura DeBruler had 20 kills and 10 digs, leading No. 6 Illinois to a 25-18, 25-17, 13-25, 26-28, 15-11 Big Ten volleyball victory against Indiana on Friday night.

The Illini (17-3 overall, 9-2 Big Ten) received 50 assists and 15 digs from Hillary Haen. Kylie McCulley chipped in with 16 kills and 10 digs, and teammate Ashley Edinger had 16 digs. Michelle Bartsch recorded 12 kills.

Eighty-five years ago marked perhaps the most memorable single day in Illinois athletics history. Not only was it the afternoon the university's imposing Memorial Stadium was officially dedicated but it also was the day when one of America's greatest football legends – Red Grange – was christened. During the first 12 minutes of the game, the Wheaton Iceman scored touchdowns the first four times he touched the ball, on runs of 95, 67, 56 and 44 yards. Grange later returned to score a fifth TD on an 11-yard run and also threw for a sixth Illini score. Other memorable moments in Illinois history on this date:
