CHAMPAIGN — An associate head gymnastics coach at the University of Illinois resigned. Meanwhile, UI police are investigating a camera found in a locker room.
Illini sports information director Kent Brown said Jon Valdez resigned for personal reasons and declined further comment. He said the school was referring all other questions to the UI police department.

BEIJING – Wearing an Olympic medal, former Illini Justin Spring couldn't bite his tongue.

"Why did everyone else count us out?" Spring said Tuesday, hours after the United States showed Paul and Morgan Hamm were replaceable by winning a bronze in the men's gymnastics team final at the Beijing Games.

Justin Spring was disappointed he didn't qualify for an individual final in Beijing. But the former Illini accomplished his second goal, helping the U.S. gymnastic team bring home a bronze medal Monday night.

BEIJING — Justin Spring won't be bringing an individual medal home from the Summer Games this year.

But the former Illini gymnast still has hopes that he can help the United States to the team gold.
