For the first time since 1989, the Illini have made the NCAA Championships cut.

D.A. Points tied for the low round of the day as Ed Beard's team rallied to finish seventh at the NCAA Central Golf Regional in Columbus, Ohio.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – D.A. Points shot a 4-over-par 76 Friday during the second round of the NCAA Central Golf Regional as Illinois slipped to 11th in the team standings.

D.A. Points carded a first-round 72 to help lead Illinois to a ninth-place tie after the first day of the NCAA Central Golf Regional on Thursday in Columbus, Ohio.

Points is 5 strokes behind leader Martin Maritz of Tulsa.

LAUDERDALE, Minn. – Sophomore Larry Nuger became the first Big Ten men's golf medalist from Illinois in six years, sharing the honors Sunday with Michigan's Michael Harris and helping the Illini move on in the postseason.

Nuger, who trailed Harris by 1 stroke heading into the fourth round, shot a 1-under-par 70 to draw even at 6-under 278 on the Les Bolstad Golf Course.

   No, the Illini senior hasn''t been dropped from the lineup after developing a case of the yips or sailing one too many balls into the water. To the contrary, Henderson lately shot some of the best golf of his career, never exceeding 76 in his last seven rounds.

The Illinois men's golf team, led by senior D.A. Points, is one of 21 teams that will compete at the NCAA Central Regional Championship May 20-22 in Columbus, Ohio.

Illinois senior Mark Henderson, who hadn't broken par in his first two spring tournaments, had a 1-under 71 Sunday – his second 71 in three days – as he finished tied for fourth individually in the 17-team Dr Pepper Intercollegiate at Pottsboro, Texas.
