Steve Stricker Wins Deutsche Bank Championship

Tiger Woods might be the face of pro golf, but former Illini Steve Stricker is - at least for the moment - the top player in the game. Here's an interview conducted by Insidetheropes.com shortly after Stricker won the Deutsche Bank Championship on Monday. Watch for Stricker's subtle smile as he is introduced as the No. 1 player in the FedEx Cup standings. Had to feel good to hear that. Several topics are covered here, but we were especially interested in Stricker's take on his critical birdies on the final two holes to secure a 1-shot victory. Stricker reveals that after teeing off on the 17th hole he told himself "Let's get two of them; let's do that." Then he adds: "Great players, that's what they're aiming to do. I know Tiger or Phil (Mickelson), whoever it would be, they'd be looking to birdie those last two." So did Stricker. Now he's No. 1.
