Zook open to Charest

By The Associated Press

Check out Bob Asmussen's Tuesday chat, which included many questions about Charest, by clicking here

Ron Zook isn't saying who Illinois will start at quarterback Saturday at Purdue, but he isn't ruling out third-stringer Jacob Charest.

Zook said Tuesday the redshirt freshman has practiced more this week than any time the past few weeks.

Zook says he is so far impressed with Charest and noted he has to keep making changes until the 1-5 Illini get better.

Starter Juice Williams fumbled twice in the second half of last Saturday's 27-14 loss at Indiana.

The  coach didn't rule out Williams or second-stringer Eddie McGee. But both have struggled during Illinois' four-game losing streak.

Comments

Just like Eddie's insertion into the line-up two weeks ago, can Jacob play defense and can he surmount Mike Schultz' desire not to score points? Nothing can right this Titanic, other than a brand new coaching staff in 2010 . . .

Peterborich (aka-Dumb...),

You really think Mike Schultz has desire to not score points? You should really use what little you have in your head before you write such absured statements.

ballcoach, Stick to your own points and stop attacking other posters. Mike Schultz's efforts are suspect given the facts we have.

I never understand why automatically its the coachs fault if there is a loss, the coaches didnt fumble, or let the ball hit them when i t was punted, I will say though you have to try to get the pieces to fall together and for some reason things have not gelled, i know the coaches are baffled as much as the fans but wait until after this season to evalutate the whole year and then lets break it down.

PLEASE START JACOB CHAREST!!! He's an accurate pocket QB. Let's get back to basics here and see what the kid can do. And I think he could be perfect for Schultz's dink and dunk offense.

TotalIlliniFan, I just want people to think rationally before they type. I don't think we should attack coaches. I will attack anyone who attacks coaches with no credibility. Besides, the facts might be our offensive players have no desire to score points? (I can't believe I'm stooping to you people's level by stating this). Why does it have to be the offensive coordinator?

Some folks on here make valid points. Others just type ridiculous comments out of frustration and ignorance.

I agree with you ball coach! alot of people are quick to blame coaches! in shultz's case, he is running the offense that zook wants! players need to play and coaches need to coach, but in most cases this year neither is doing well, but losing fumbles and taunting dont help.

i will say, if we dont get atleast 4 wins i would say zook is gone and honestly he should be. His record is worse than ron turners!
