What Bob's thinking

Should have seen that one coming. Especially after the close call against Ohio State. We know Southern Cal is going to lose a Pac-10 road game every year. The more outlandish it seems, the more likely it is to happen. Stanford, Oregon and Oregon State have pulled off stunners in recent years. This time, it was Washington, led by former Trojans assistant Steve Sarkisian. Somebody else should have hired him first.

When you lose to an unranked team, home or away, you are going to get hit hard in The N-G poll. For the Trojans that means 17 spots and below the team that just beat you.

BYU, blown out at home by unranked Florida State, had a similar fall. To keep BYU in (thanks to the win against Oklahoma), the Seminoles had to join this week's Top 25, one spot ahead of the Cougars.

A belated welcome to Cincinnati, which goes from unranked (OK, that was a mistake) all the way to No. 12 after Saturday's win at Oregon State. And Miami jumps into the Top 10 with a dominating win against Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech, Utah, Oregon State and Nebraska dropped out after losses. All four are in the "also considered" list, along with UCLA, Missouri, Auburn, Pitt, Notre Dame, South Florida and Southern Miss.

Comments

Southern Miss gets your consideration?? Really? Here's what Southern Miss has done this season:

Home vs. Alcorn State, W, 52-0

Home vs. UCF, W, 26-19

Home vs. Virginia, W, 37-34

Yes, the Golden Eagles are 3-0, but which one of those HOME victories is exactly impressive?
